One of the most remote mining areas in Clear Creek Canon, the mining camp of Hamilton consisted of a mere four to five buildings. The Hamilton Mining and Tunnel Company operated here until 1905.
Taking CR 390 out of Winfield, the left fork, just over two miles will lead you to the S. Fork Clear Creek trailhead. This is a four wheel drive road. The USFS gate at the start of the trail is ½ mile beyond the Banker Mine. Though 1.5 miles long, the Hamilton trail is quite easy, gaining only 200 feet in elevation. The views are breathtaking.
The area along the trail is home to rare plants living tenuously, so please protect them by staying on the path. If you're not careful, you might miss Hamilton, as there isn't must left of it. Look to your right when you think you might be there.
