Held in March in Leadville Ski Joring is a fan favorite.
Ski joring, the activity of a horse and rider pulling a skier from behind on snow-covered roads over snow jumps, is a wild winter sport and great to watch. In Leadville, Harrison Street becomes the site of all the ski joring action.
The Crystal Carnival is the concurrent festival for the entire family that celebrates winter sports and activities popular to the Rocky Mountains. The Crystal Carnival commemorates the original winter sports festival that was held in Leadville in 1896. The town has been hosting ski joring competitions since 1949. The competition draws teams from all over the country. Enjoy a children’s parade, dog sled rides, broomball games, winter mountain bike races and more.
